Racing Stripes Done Right — Dodge Durango to Ferrari Purosangue

Racing stripes are one of those details that look effortless when they’re done well — and exposing every mistake when they’re not. Alignment, edge finish, panel transitions, and getting the proportions right for the specific vehicle all matter. Here are two recent stripe jobs from the shop that show exactly what that looks like across two completely different builds.

Build 1: Dodge Durango — Matte Black and Yellow Racing Stripes

The owner of this Dodge Durango GT wanted something aggressive and personal — a wide matte black center stripe with bright yellow pinstripe outlines running bumper to bumper. It’s a combination that reads like a muscle car tribute on an SUV platform, and on this granite crystal metallic paint it lands exactly right.

The process starts with layout — blue tape marks the stripe path down the centerline of the hood, over the roof, and down the tailgate before a single piece of vinyl gets cut. Getting the lines perfectly centered and symmetrical on a vehicle with a hood scoop, body contours, and a tailgate spoiler takes time. Rush the layout and you’ll see it from twenty feet away. The process shots here show exactly why that step matters.

Once the stripe vinyl is down, the yellow pinstripes frame the matte black center panel with a precision edge that makes the whole composition look intentional rather than applied. The stripe runs continuously from the front bumper through the hood scoop, over the roof, and finishes clean on the rear bumper — full length, no breaks.

Build 2: Ferrari Purosangue — Italian Tricolor Center Stripe

Then there’s this. A Ferrari Purosangue in British Racing Green — one of the rarest and most striking color combinations you’ll find on a modern Ferrari — with a single Italian tricolor stripe running down the centerline. Green, white, and red on green. Subtle enough to feel factory, bold enough to stop traffic.

Working on a Ferrari is a different level of responsibility. The paint is flawless, the panel gaps are tight, and there is zero margin for error. A stripe on a vehicle like this has to be perfectly centered, perfectly straight, and installed without any risk to the underlying paint. The Purosangue’s long hood and aggressive front fascia make centering especially critical — any deviation from true center is immediately visible.

The finished result at the client’s home is exactly what it should be — precise, proportional, and completely in character with the vehicle. The tricolor reads as a factory option, not an afterthought. On British Racing Green, those three colors have no business working this well together. They do.
